Independent. Nobody paid for the story or the place to be chosen. Editorial pages do not wear a label. This page is the explanation.
Sponsored in association with a brand
A brand paid for the placement. The editor writes the story and controls it. The label sits above the headline with the brand name.
Paid for by a brand
The advertiser approves the words. The label says who paid. Paid restaurant profiles live in the business directory, not in the main restaurant list or the guides.
Meals and comps
The working rule for this preview: if a business pays, the page says so. If a meal is free, the story says so. This is not a signed ethics code yet. It is the rule the site is built to enforce.
